UT Beemaster Course coming to Treadway

Dr. John Skinner, professor of entomology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, will teach a Beemaster course for all interested beekeepers on Sept. 23-25 at the Treadway Volunteer Fire Department. Tennessee State Apiarist Mike Studer will assist with the class.

2010 Heartland Apicultural Society Conference

The 2010 Heartland Apicultural Society Conference is scheduled for July 8-10 in Cookeville.
The conference will include classes for beekeepers of all skill levels and interests, including a three-day queen rearing mini-course, a beginners track for new and potential beekeepers and classes on added value products.

Tennessee participating in federal bee study

Tennessee is one of 13 states participating in a national survey sponsored by the U.S. Departure of Agriculture. The survey will help scientists determine the prevalence of parasites and disease-causing microorganisms that may be part of the reason for the decline of the honey bee across the United States.

CVBA + LMU = Fantastic!

In May, CVBA officers presented three empty hives and several tools to the Lincoln-Memorial University Organic Garden Project.
The bees will be active partners in the organic gardening project, which currently consists of 35 4×10 foot individual beds and a 15,000 square foot community garden.

Knox County Beekeepers Association Short Course

The KCBA will hold their short course on Monday and Wednesday, March 1 and 3. Hours are 7-9 p.m. both days. It’s time to order the bees!

CVBA President Jim Rice has reserved 00 packages of bees from Rossmans Apiaries in Georgia. So far, nearly 40 packages have been spoken for.
Anyone wishing to place an order for bees will need to make a $26 deposit per package by the next meeting, which is scheduled for 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 18.
