While few hives have one, CVBA has its very own King Bee. Member Jack Price dons his fancy head gear during the June CVBA meeting. Get those cameras out and get ready to submit entries for the Tennessee Beekeepers Association’s Photo Contest, which takes place during the Fall Convention. Dr. John Skinner, professor of entomology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, will teach a Beemaster course for all interested beekeepers on Sept. 23-25 at the Treadway Volunteer Fire Department. Tennessee State Apiarist Mike Studer will assist with the class. The 2010 Heartland Apicultural Society Conference is scheduled for July 8-10 in Cookeville. Tennessee is one of 13 states participating in a national survey sponsored by the U.S. Departure of Agriculture. The survey will help scientists determine the prevalence of parasites and disease-causing microorganisms that may be part of the reason for the decline of the honey bee across the United States. |
