Aug. 31 is the deadline to sign up for the three-day Bee Master Course scheduled for Sept. 23, 24 and 25 at the Treadway Fire Department.

The class is being conducted by Dr. John Skinner and State Apiarist Mike Studer.

Class hours are 6-9 p.m., Thursday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Saturday will be a hands-on day in the bee yard.

There is a $25 deposit/registration fee per person.

Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Certification of Completion from the University of Tennessee.

The CVBA will hold a honey extraction day at 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 13 at the Treadway Fire Department.
Anyone who wishes to extract on that date must have his or her hives inspected ahead of time.

The 2010 Heartland Apicultural Society Conference is scheduled for July 8-10 in Cookeville.

In May, CVBA officers presented three empty hives and several tools to the Lincoln-Memorial University Organic Garden Project.
The bees will be active partners in the organic gardening project, which currently consists of 35 4×10 foot individual beds and a 15,000 square foot community garden.
